Week 2A: How I Utilize Social Media

Social media is a unique marketing platform that provides space for more than just professional use.  I hybrid exists online that most closely resembles a typical, “community center.” A local coffee shop is a hodgepodge environment where professional marketing reaches into the authenticity of the community to make the consumer feel at ease.  In the example of the communal coffee shop, the consumer and product become complimentary goods. It is by building off this harmony that social media has continued to grow. The question that remains from this success, “how do I utilize social media for capital gains?”

While, a multi-pronged approach is always a good strategy to reinforce messaging, I find Facebook and blogging are the best social media platforms for business. Facebook offers access to a larger audience than Snap Chat, Instagram, or Twitter, and has great organizing tools such as “create an event”, and professional pages with a built-in link to “call to action.” Additionally, Facebook has useful paid tools including a built-in paid advertising platform.

Social media becomes less cut and dry for personal branding. If you’re anything like me, personal social media strategy can get lost in social anxiety.  In my experience, publishing content for my personal brand can be reduced to a similar panic best left in a high school cafeteria.  Yet I always remind myself “likes” do not equate to character points in the real world and reach down for the next dog picture or political article to share with the world.  I enjoy using Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snap Chat in my social life, but would love to get better at these applications.  I would love to learn the equation of what x-factor to put in the black box to bring my desired output.

  1. Hi Ashley!

Nice blog (I really need to do something about mine) and well-written post.

With personal branding, I would find it challenging to look back on older content that I put out. We change so much over the years. The way I viewed things at 23 yrs old is very different of how I view them now. Personal branding evolution is an interesting topic for me.

There is a company called Headbands of Hope. Interestingly enough, their most successful platform is Instagram. There are so many factors to keep in mind when a business is choosing platforms. Where is their target audience engaging with and how are these trends changing? I find it so fascinating!

  2. I agree Facebook is the #1 social media platform used widely for business. Facebook can help your business grow because it has a large user base. The boos feature is a quick and easy way to show your content to people.

  3. Great job! I totally agree with you. My social anxiety tends to get in the way of me posting so much on social media. I dont even have a Facebook, because it just freaks me out lol. Anyways, great content and your blog is super cute!

  4. I love your template! I agree, your post is very thought provoking and insightful. I have a friend has a business that helps business owners grow their brand on Facebook and she's now a millionaire. I think a lot of her approach has to do with list-building and influencer impact and I think that also plays a key role in helping many who want a broader social media following to in essence answer the question in your first paragraph. I still would like to know the answer to having it work for me, too!
